Week Commencing: Sat 03/09/2016

A new week brought a much welcome brake in the weather, a sure sign that autumn is on its way. Daytime temps remained around thirty degrees but the nights where much more bearable hovering around the mid teens. As always anther cracking bunch of lads this week with a 50/50 split of regulars and Gigantica newbies, a good time was had by all.

Back for his first week of his two-week annual trip and probably our longest serving customer Barry Yeomans set up in Bob’s Beach.  For those of you that don’t know Barry and Bob where best of friends and always used to do these trips together before Bob sadly passed away in 2014.  The swim is named after Bob, as it was a swim he detested but through the luck of the draw, as they say, he usually ended up in here!  With Bobs Beach showing a little form of late and the boss helping himself to four carp the previous week from this area it was a no brainer for Barry.  Sunday morning you guessed it Barry was off the mark.  Snags Linear at 42.00lbs and what a way to start! Barry fished at 21 wraps towards The Alamo and baited with a mixture of chopped and whole Mainline Cell boilie.  Barry fished a matching Cell wafter tied to an IQ D rig of around 9 inches.  Throughout the week he followed this up with two more fish.  Firstly another amazing carp, Stoneacres at 41.00lbs and also The Jarminator at 31.00lbs.  Both like the Snags Linear where caught from the area towards The Alamo and again on the Cell wafter and IQ D rig combo doing the trick with a little help from Bob no doubt, as we are sure he was looking down on Barry this week!

Fishing in The Alamo this week we had Nathan who was on his first trip to Gigantica.  Through hard work and determination, as Nathan will be the first to admit he isn’t the best of casters, he was rewarded for his efforts with a stunning 38.02lb common that goes by the name of Dave’s Common.  Nathan fished at 27 wraps towards Bobs Beach and baited with a mixture of Mainline Cell and Hybrid boilies. Rig wise Nathan was using a simple knotless knot rig and a snowman hookbait consisting of a 18mm Cell bottom bait and a 10mm milky toffee pop-up.

Another Gigantica newbie this week was Dave.  Dave decided on Oblivion and again after a lot of perseverance and hard work Dave was rewarded for his efforts with a stunning little mirror, not a monster by Gigantica standards as he landed The Power at 20.00lbs from a spot at 24 wraps towards Alcatraz.

Fishing for the first time this week in a few weeks Steve decided to fish Pole Position.  An area he knows well and has always caught consistently well from.  Over the course of the week he managed four fish all 20’s, the biggest a mirror weighing 28.00lbs.  Fishing at 26.5 wraps to the right of The Stink.  Steve introduced around 7kg of chopped and whole Cell boilies and fished a chopped down Cell wafter on a fairly long supple braided hooklink tied to a size 4 Wide Gape on a running lead set-up, Something a little different to the norm and certainly seems to be a winning combination at present.
